Biophilia: why we need the sea

We're made for nature, not against it. How biophilic design brings the coast indoors.

Biophilia is the hypothesis that we have an innate need for contact with nature — inherited from thousands of years lived outdoors. Ignoring it makes us ill; honoring it heals. And few places activate biophilia like the sea.

In design, this becomes method: generous openings to the horizon, natural materials to the touch, cross ventilation, greenery reaching the terrace. It's not decoration — it's designing for the body to feel at home in the oldest sense of the word.

Living well, in the end, is living close to what made us.
